Bisbee’s teams up with UjENA Swimwear for Puerto Vallarta offshore tournament

Bisbee’s, the producers of the world’s richest fishing tournaments, has teamed up with the UjENA swimwear manufacturers to present the new Bisbee’s Offshore UjENA Jam Tournament that will take place on August 27th to 29th in beautiful Puerto Vallarta. This “Offshore Jam” is a conservation minded, all-release for billfish tournament with additional categories for dorado and tuna. It will take place in conjunction with the biggest swimwear model competition in the world, the famous UjENA Jam.

Americans flying, buying property in Mexico

EL PASO — New figures show home prices in major U.S. cities dropped this past year to what they were in the summer of 2004. That news has developers luring Americans across the border to buy and some of the hottest properties are along Mexico’s Pacific Coast. It’s known as a “fly and buy”. The Riviera Nayarit, just north of Puerto Vallarta, is one of the hot areas.

WestJet Expands International Network With Two New Sun Destinations

Mexico’s sales-tax refunds could prove taxing for U.S. tourists

Mexico is now offering sales-tax refunds for goods bought by foreign visitors in five popular tourist haunts — Mexico City, Cancun, Guadalajara, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta. But collecting the cash will require digesting lots of fine print as the program gets off the ground.

The refunds are for value-added tax paid on retail goods, and exclude hotel and restaurant tabs. The items must be purchased in stores that have registered with the rebate program — only about 5% of total retailers at present, though the government is “aggressively” marketing the program to others.

Mexico: This summer, a sales tax rebate for visitors

Starting this month, foreign shoppers can get a refund on Mexico’s 15 percent VAT (value added tax). Claim your refund by picking up a form at at a VAT booth at one of the following airports: Cancún, Guadalajara, Los Cabos, Mexico City, and Puerto Vallarta. At Mexico City’s main airport, for instance, there are currently nine booths.

Festival de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe: This annual celebration leads up to Día de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, celebrated throughout Mexico on December 12. The Virgin of Guadalupe is the patron saint of Mexico, and is also identified with the Aztec earth goddess and mother of humankind. The basilica just outside of Mexico City features the largest celebration and the most impressive crowd of impassioned believers, but perhaps the best place to view the festivities is in Puerto Vallarta, where they continue around the clock for 12 days. It is a visual delight.

Puerto Vallarta’s not just for tourists, it’s for artists too

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico — Strollers passing along the river that flows through downtown here were startled last week to encounter a pair of “Towel Swans” gliding atop the murky water. Crafted out of plastic foam by Chilean artist Cristián Silva, they resembled the decorative birds sculpted by chambermaids to be left on tourists’ hotel beds, in hopes of earning a few extra pesos in tip money.
