Puerto Vallarta, known for its cruise visitors, has plenty for whole gang to do

PUERTO VALLARTA — If you find yourself strolling through Puerto Vallarta’s Old Town on Mexico’s Pacific coast, keep an eye peeled for the Playa Los Arcos. When you spot this traditional Mexican hotel, peek inside the courtyard. Within is the spirit of Old Mexico.

Two youthful bellboys sport charro shirts, with matching striped pants and red sashes. Smiling desk

clerks wear white mariachi dresses adorned with gold-tone horse-head buckles.

“It’s exceptional,” Ampudia tells a gathering of friends touring his collection. “It’s what he would serve at the presidential dinner table.”

Nuevo Vallarta Reconstruction Continues

Nuevo Vallarta Marina was originally constructed in 1984 by a Texas company that dredged the mouth of an estuary one-half mile north of Rio Ameca. After development, the estuary was named Nuevo Vallarta Inlet, in honor of the marina on its south shores. Eventually, the much larger Paradise Village Resort and Marina was built along the inlet’s north shore, and the smaller marina fell into disrepair.

Weakening dollar losing buying power in Mexico

The plunging U.S. dollar already has forced many Americans to give up vacations in Europe. Now, the dollar has lost a tenth of its value against the Mexican peso since January, meaning that beach trips to Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta and other sunny points south of the border are quickly becoming more expensive, too.
