Cancer didn’t stop her from opening boutique

Margaret "Mary" Piazza wasn't going to let cancer stop her from living.

In the middle of her fight with the deadly disease, she opened a boutique in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, 18 months ago. She traveled back and forth to Florida to get chemotherapy while nurturing her new business, The Flying Iguana, said her longtime friend, Jeff Olson of Sarasota.

Piazza's determination defined her life. With a background as a legal secretary and no formal training, she became owner of a company that designed and built playground equipment around the world. At home, she was known for elaborate holiday dinners that helped hold her extended family together after her parents died.
