¿Quién puede olvidar un delicioso día de aventura o descanso en las playas de Puerto Vallarta? Como no apreciar los hermosamente coloridos y variados atardeceres que pintan de manera distinta cada tarde los cerros y edificios del puerto. Puerto Vallarta es un lugar hermoso que además de albergar inmensidad de especies dentro de sus aguas, y en su selva espesa, también es hogar de preciosas aves que surcan sus cielos y que se pueden observar en cualquier época del año.

De manera que si usted viaja a este lindo puerto, no pierda la oportunidad de conocer algunas de las más de 350 especies de aves diferentes que se encuentran en sus diversas regiones y ecosistemas.

Tendrá la oportunidad de disfrutar de bellísimas aves como la Chara de San Blas, también llamada Chara verde (Cyanocorax yncas), ésta mide de 26.5 a 30.5 cm., es la única Chara verde en México. Por lo general la podemos observar en la vertiente del Pacífico desde Nayarit hacia el sur; en la vertiente del Golfo desde la parte baja del Valle del Río Bravo hacia el sur y este a través de la Península de Yucatán.

También podremos encontrar el Cacique Mexicano (Cacicus melanicterus) un ave delgada de cresta negra y amarilla con el pico blanco o en ocasiones de un verde pálido. Tiene un parche color amarillo brillante en el ala, la rabadilla y gran parte de la cola, su ojo es amarillento también. Generalmente se alimenta de insectos, desperdicios, frutas pequeñas y fauna acuática.

Puerto Vallarta is a beautiful place that not only offers an immensity of species within its waters, in its thick jungles, but it is also the home to beautiful birds that soar though the skies and can be seen and enjoyed at any time of year.

So if you are thinking of traveling to this beautiful harbor, bring your bird watching gear along and don’t miss the opportunity to meet some of the more than 350 different bird species found in the various regions and ecosystems surrounding Vallarta.

You will have the opportunity to find beautiful birds like the San Blas Jay, also called Green Jay (Cyanocorax yncas), the largest measure between 10 to 12 inches long. The Green Jay is the only jay in Mexico. Usually we see them in the Pacific slope from Nayarit to the south, on the slopes of the Gulf of Mexico from the lower Rio Grande Valley to the south and east of Mexico through the Yucatan Peninsula.

We may also find a bird called the Yellow-winged Cacique (Cacicus melanicterus) a thin bird with a black and yellow crest and white beak or pale green. It has a bright yellow patch on the wing, back end and much of the tail, their eyes is also yellow. They generally feed on insects, debris, small fruits and aquatic fauna.
